SLJ Week 1 Activity 5

L.I To create a kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer

Today I learnt that when it is very hot and the air is shimmering Tānerore performs the haka for his mother, Hine-Raumati. This happens in summer as the land heats up. Our challenge was to think about this while we designed our own kowhaiwhai pattern to represent summer. My pattern shows the heat of the sun. I found this activity fun because I made my own designs.

SLJ week 1 Activity 2

LI: To write a quality blog comment on someone else’s blog that starts a rich learning conversation.

Leaving a quality blog comment on another  student’s blog helps us make connections to new learning by asking open ended questions that encourage a reply and motivate the blogger to ask their own question in return. This is how a comment thread starts and when that happens we make connections with a wider audience who we can learn with and from. The Person I commented on was Malachi at Ruapotaka hopefully I get a reply.

SLJ week one Activity one

LI: To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano Girl.

This morning we started off by doing the summer learning journey task with the year 7’s and 8’s.They helped us by understanding what to do. My partner from LS2 was Liletina and she helped me understand what to do. I really found it fun and interesting to work with her.

Operation Christmas Drop

L.I To wright a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words.
The impact that OCD  has on the remote islands is the off Guam is that the crates that the Airforce drop out of the plane is filled with food and learning supplies.
For the last 68 years the men and women of the US Airforce who are based at Andersen Airforce Base in Guam have been using a pilot training drill to drop much needed supplies to the people who live on the 50 remote islands that surround Guam. My opinion is that when they drop the crates I would like to donate some things like.

Tech Reflection for the end of the year

This year has been one of roughest year as we got into lockdown and things about as Covid-19 hit. On weekdays every friday the year 7’s and year 8’s students at Panmure Bridge School goes to tech, At tech we have 3 rotations, The year 7’s rotations went from Mrs Fregson,Mrs Heka and Mrs Sharma, Mrs Fregoson is all about doing robots and moving them around as playing with coding, Mrs Heka is all about making food and trying them out, lastly Mrs Sharma is all about having fun in science.  I think tech this year was the best as it was our first year doing tech, I really enjoyed finding out new things every friday with them. I think tech really helped me with learning different facts.

Tech Reflection

This week is the last tech session for this year. For tech the year 7's students learned about plants and food. We learned about plants by answering questions  and finding out information about plants. We also really enjoyed going outside and only having 2 minutes to find 10 different leaves. One of the elements of science for plants is Size and Colour. I also really liked finding out the different  leaves between.  I also really liked enjoyed working with my buddies and understand different facts about leaves. I really like going to science at tech this year my favourt thing we did was picking the leaves today.

Care award collage

For my silver Respect Care Award I have created this is collage about life at Panmure Bridge School. At PBS we are lucky to experience lots of different learning experiences both inside and outside of the classroom.  I  have included photos from cricket, kiwi sport, basketball, food tech and class learning.

Art colouring book

 LI: To experiment with colours.

This is the Big Ben clock and it is located in London. My Big Ben tower that I coloured is the top one.
This morning we tried one of this year’s Kick Start Summer Learning Journey activities. The purpose of this task was to experiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous painting or images of landmarks around the world. I think that the colouring activity book is really good because it helps people to to learn how to colour and it is also really fun.

Kapa Haka

Today Te Whanau Raukura preformed at our school they sung lots of songs and also danced. Te Whanau Raukura also preformed at the Auckland Museum but because of the lock down the Auckland Museum is closed. The dances they did were amazing. They used te rakau witch is a stick used to warm up before a battle. They also used a taiaha to fight. Bekah from Te Whanau Raukura showed LS2 how she use the pois the game she showed us how to play was pukana. The thing I found interesting was all the dances that they did.

Exploring our national current events

L.I To identify author’s purpose.

Authors write for a purpose (reason). These reasons are to persuade, inform or entertain (PIE). Each day, newspaper editors around the world must make desicions about which stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in New Zealand, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map.

Provocation: Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?

L.I To identify and consider the two perspectives of this provocation to help me.

A provocation is an action or speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Today we considered both sides of the provocation, ‘Should masks be compulsory on NZ public transport?’ We then used that information to help us form an opinion that we could justify with evidence

Maths

LI: To create a DLO to explain how we solved the problem.

This week for maths we were learning measurement's. In this subject we were talking about weight. The unit for measurement for weight are - grams, kilograms, tonnes etc. In groups we solved 3 problem challenges. For these challenges we wrote down answers in on pieces of paper. After we solved these challenges we created a DLO explaining our strategy and how we got our answer. For our strategy we used Place Value and a calculator because the numbers were too big for us to solve. In my group was Liletina, Hosea, Jayden, Fau and Diana.

LAWS OF INERTIA

LI: To create a DLO explaing the Law of Inertia.

This week for reading we have been continuing with science. For this session we were learning the Law of Inertia. The Law of Inertia connects to physics in science. In groups we created a DLO explaining what the Law of Inertia is and who created it. Isaac Newton was the person who found out and created the Law of Inertia. I collaborated with Fau, Ellenora, Karlos and Matthew to complete this DLO. Isaac Newton made 3 laws:
Law of Rest
Law of Direction
Law of Motion

Choices Explanation

L.I To right a explanation.

Why did you drop that piece of plastic? Do you know what you are doing by dropping a piece of plastic?

Did you know that the sea animals are dying and we are the ones killing them. If you want to be eating plastic and chips then keep dropping your plastic & if you want to eat fish and chips then stop throwing your plastic on the ground because it will go to the ocean.

Birds are getting strangled in the nets and eating the plastic that we throw on the ground. We have to help the sea birds by putting our plastic in the bin and taking the plastic out of the ocean.

Even sea turtles are changing their shape because people are throwing the plastic can holder on the ground and the wind blows it away into the ocean and is getting stuck around the body of the turtle and the turtles are eating the plastic we are putting in the ocean.

Most of the sea animals are mistaking the plastic as food. Did you know that a turtle got a straw stuck in its nose and a vet  had to get it out.

If we keep dropping our plastic we won't be able to swim or have fish and chips again we might have plastic and chips. I don't want to have plastic and chips. We have to prevent the plastic from going into the ocean so we can care for the sea animals and the ocean.

Inquiry

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice.
If you were Prime Minister, what one thing would you do to change NZ for the better and why?
If I was Prime Minister I would give every homeless person a house and give every child lunch at school. I would give every homeless person a house because no one will mock them. I will give every child lunch at school so they are not tired.

Inquiry

LI: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice.
To decide which political party I would vote for I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce should they win the election and the right to form a government to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision.
If I was 18 I would vote for national party because they want to introduce new regulations for shark cage diving this means if national party won the election in my electorate Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi would be our member of parliament and Judith Collins would become the Prime Minister.

FootPrints

This DLO is about Observation and Science. I looked for Images that I could use to help the readers understand the DLO. I completed this DLO by sharing my ideas and helping each other. The most important thing I learned was that Science is  empirical which means it is based on something.

MRS C GREN

For Reading we continued learning about Science. This week our topic was about Biology, biology is the study of living organisms like humans, animals and micro organisms. We were learning about MRS C GREN. MRS C GREN is the life process for living organisms. They stand for movement, repatriation, Sensitivity, Cells Reproduction, Excretion and Nutrition. We worked in groups to to make this DLO.

Te Reo Maori challenge

L.I To do Te Reo maori challenge.

This week for the Te Reo challenges we were doing are family trees. We stared to do on a peace of paper and then some of LS2 toke there family trees home, and we showed are parents. Then we made are family tree on a google drawing. Then we wrote dawn are family members names but we only write dawn the names of are family members that we know and we also had to write dawn the moari names.

Its cool two be me

This week we did a DLO that talks about ourselves the most. It talks about what our favorite food,Our best friends, quality I look for in friends,I wish, great things about me,my goal,Fun things I like doing and if I could be someone else who would I be. My favorite thing about this DLO is that I can write what ever I want and no one can judge me because this is about me.

Sunflowers/Vincent Van Gogh

L.I To paint a still life of sunflowers in the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
For art we were painting sunflowers. We had to draw what we see. Before painting we started to practice painting sunflowers. We also learnt not to overload the brush with paint.

Tech Reflection

LI: To identify what we know about science

Today for Tech we had science with Mrs sharma. First we got new booklets from Mrs  sharma.        and on our booklets we wrote what we think science is and if we have a question that we would say to a scientist then we got A3 paper. After that we folded our  A3 paper into quarters then we wrote the most science words we can write in 2 minutes . Then we drawed a picture of what we think scientists do there that we got photos of and we picked one each and after that we wrote about what the photo is about.

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline

LI: To create a timeline to show the life of Vincent Van Gogh.

Made with Padlet

My group worked collaboratively using Padlet to create a timeline about the life of Vincent Van Gogh. Van Gogh was an artist from the post impressionist movement which meant he liked to paint still life paintings that captured a moment in time. We found it really interesting that while he was alive he didn't sell many paintings but in 1990, 100 years after his death, a painting by him sold for $82.5 million!

Dance Class#1

Miss Rebecca is our dance teacher. The topic is me and my body. We did dance  to express me by doing movement and by creating shapes with our body to the song. we had to dance around until the music stopped then we had to be collaboratively with our group and make a shape with our body. The fun thing about dance is  that there are no wrong ways to dance. you can dance however you want.the finish this is that we needed to work together to see what letters we can get in to we had four groups of six and in that six people we all had to try do the alphabet with the whole group

Science: Summarise the text

L.I: To summarise the information.
This week for reading our focus is science. For this second activity my group and I skimmed and scanned our notes and shared ideas to create a collaborative summary explaining ‘what is science?’. We divided our lengthy summary into 3 following paragraphs: an introduction on science, the 4 main categories of science and the two types of science.

What is science

LI: to find our 3 most vital ideas from the information answering the question 'What is Science'.

This week for reading our focus is science. In groups we watched a YouTube video explaining physics, chemistry, and biology (the things that are connected to it) and why science is important to us. After watching it twice, my group and I wrote down notes about some of the information that we took and remember from the video. We negotiated on the most important 7 of the notes to separate from the rest. We left 4 of those notes as ‘very important ideas’ and picked out our 3 vital ideas.  In our opinion we thought that the 3 most vital ideas were:
Science is divided into 3 branches, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
Basic science is knowing something and applied science is using what we know.

Life education

At Life Education we learnt about Making wise choices. At Life Education we talked about Hauora, and the four walls. We also talked about our brain. We also talked about non - wise choices, and things that trigger non - wise choices. The bad choices we talked about were Drugs, Smoking, and Vaping. For example people might start smoking or vaping because of peer pressure from friends or to help stop smoking or trying to act cool it is really bad because of the vape go into your lungs.

6 Sentence story

L.I. Use 6 sentences to set up the structure of a narrative

I couldn't believe my eyes when my best friend James put his hand up and answered a question. James is usually shy and always asks to go to the toilet just to get out of the room. Unfortunately I was the one who got told off because, I never answered a question the teacher asked me. I am sweating and my heart is pounding while the teacher is yelling at me. The next day I told the teacher that I was sorry and that I was shocked.

Today my group wrote 6 sentence stories to help us take risks with our writing. We did this by sharing our ideas and writing sentence that drop hints about what was happening in the picture we chose to write about. We helped each other by suggesting ideas to each other to make our stories more interesting.

For Inquiry we learnt about Matariki. In our DLO we summarised the general idea of Matariki and its story. We picked out twenty important words related to Matariki, then from those twenty words, we picked the six of the most important words. Using those six words we summarised the general idea of Matariki using only a few short sentences to make it simple.

Fish in a bowl

This week Mr Johnson visited the class. He tolled us all about how are eyes can deserve us.And how blinking can clean your eyes. And keeps it moused and if you wave a pen in front of your face.It looks like it's made from rubier. It is a trick that your eyes play on you.We also made a toy with one picture on one side, and one on the other side. sometimes your eyes see one thing but it needs time to imprint it in your memory. And we had to drew on those sides a fishing bowl and a fish and when you spin it around you can see the fish jumping into the fish bowl.

What is matariki

L.I To use your smart searching skills to find information that tells others what matariki is.
For our Inquiry we were learning about Matariki, since its June. On this DLO it presents what is Matariki, the seven sisters, and their names. Matariki is a Maori New Year, and it is a celebration. Matariki is also a star cluster with seven sisters, or some people know it as six daughters and one mother. Matariki is about gathering with family and friends, and talking about ancestors in stories.
