Attitude CARE Award

Attitude CARE Award | Activity 3

L.I: Research someone who has a positive attitude despite difficulties they have faced.

For today's CARE Award activity 3 I dicided to do a "Research someone who has a positive attitude despite difficulties they have faced". For this activity I chose to write about Mike Tyson because he's one of my favourite boxers. In 1992 Mike Tyson went to jail for rapist now he's back in the game and ready to box. If you want to learn more about Mike Tyson just read my DLO that I have made. I enjoyed this task because I work collaborativly with one of my class mates and we learnt different facts about Mike Tyson.

Hauora

LI: To show our understanding of Hauora in context.

Athletes at the top of their field train both physically and mentally because it is both the body and the mind that need to be healthy to have balance as an athlete. It is important to enjoy and celebrate the results of what hard work has led to since it might be a one time opportunity. Olympic athletes that have earned a medal should be proud of themselves, and olympians that have unfortunately lost should be grateful for the opportunity.

Ancient Greek Olympics

LI: To give a presentation on the Ancient Greek Olympics.

Last week, LS2 gave presentations to the class about what we know on the Ancient Greek Olympics. For this task, my group used Prezi to present and recorded a Screencastify to present to the class. Prezi is a good way to keep your audience entertained by animating the different areas of your slideshow.

We talked about what the Ancient Greek Olympics was and what took place on the five days of the Olympics. We also gave 5 fun facts about the Ancient Olympics.

I enjoyed this because it was fun to present and learn about the Ancient Greek Olympics as well. One fun fact that I learnt about the Ancient Greek Olympics was that one athlete trained by lifting a bull calf everyday until it was a full grown bull.

Hauora

LI: To write what Hauora might help an athlete with.

Our objective for this task was to make a Hauora poster based off what we know of athletes. We wrote what we might think an Olympic athlete would use the four areas of Hauora in their training or during the Olympics.

Hauora is the four walls of our well-being. They are our physical, mental, spiritual and family well-being.

I enjoyed this task because I was able to look at Hauora through an athletes eyes and see Hauora from an athletes perspective.

Haoura and olympics

Athletes at their best train mentally and physically because both the mody and the mind need to be strong and have a good balance to be an athlete. If you win or lose it is good to be calm and be thankful that you get to represent your country and that you’ve made it to the olympics. You will be more successful if you believe in yourself and knowing you have support from fans and your whanau to direct you in the path of fame and success .

Mindfulness Reflection #1

LI: To practise mindfulness.

Today, we focused on mindfulness and having a peaceful mental well-being. Sometimes, our mind isn’t concentrating well and is doing something called ‘mind wandering’. We calmed ourselves down by using the Pause, Breathe and Smile method.

Mindfulness is calming your body and your mind, focusing on your mental health, focusing on what’s happening right now, removing the negativity from your mind and being mindful of yourself and others. Mindfulness is a way to balance the 4 pillars of your hauora.

Often in a frustrating situation, our mind enters the red zone. The red zone is when we feel angry, anxious, frustrated, irritable, stressed, overly excited, worried, distracted or any other negative emotion that we usually cannot control. We use a mindfulness technique which helps us to be calm, clear, content, balanced, peaceful, relaxed, curious and engaged in what we are doing.

This session of mindfulness was helpful because it can help yourself and others become calm in stressful situations as well as focus on what is happening right now and being aware of your emotions.

Olympics Math Challenge 2

L.I To use the most efficient strattagey to find the answer.

For this task we used the most efficient strategy to solve maths questions. The most efficient strategy that was used for this challenge was addition and subtraction. These strategies were used when we needed to find out the answer of how much the Gold medalist scored over Nastia, and used to find our how much points did Nastia scored than the Bronze medalist.

Steps:

For the first question the Gold medal winners score was 16.726 because Nastia scored 16.725 and the gold medalist scored 0.001 more than Nastia. So we added 0.001 and 16.725, that gave us the score of the gold medalists.

To see if our answers were correct we subtracted 16.726 to 0.001 which equalled to 16.725, and added 1.75 to 14.975 which equalled to 16.726.

For the second question Nastia scored over 1.750 than the Bronze medalist because we subtracted the 14.975 (third place winner score) to 16.725 (second place winner score) which equal to 1.750.

To see if the answer was correct, we added 1.750 to 14.975 that equals 16.725.

I enjoyed doing this challenge because it helped me improve my decimal challenge.

Olympics Math Challenge 1

L.I To use the most efficient strattagey to find the answer.

The most efficient strategy I used to solve this challenge was addition and division. Addition strategy was used to find out how many meters Micheal swam for all of his different events, and the division strategy was used to find out how many strokes he did if he took 2 meters in each stroke.

Steps:

For or the freestyle relay (4x100m), we didn't multiply it, the 4 is the amount of people that did it so Michael was 1 of 4 so it is 100 same for the medley relay and the second freestyle relay.

The maths:

 400

 100

 200

 200

 200

 100

+100

-----------

1500

Then, I divide 1500 by 2 because for every stroke Michael takes it is 2 meters.

1500 divided by 2 = 750

So 750 is the amount of strokes to take Michael over to the end of the pool

I enjoyed doing this activity because it helped me improve my division skill.

Our First Olympians

LI: To identify the main ideas - negotiation game

LI: To make inferences about the events in the text using the clues provided by the author.

The DLO showing above is about the amount of money that was spend to build and help with the olympics. My reading group wrote some no and yes ideas as example yes they should spent this money to make their families proud, also with no because people could use the money with vaccines. We also found a photo of then and now happening every four years.

Our First Olympians

L.I : To compare then and now with the Olympics Places.

Tech

L.I To send messeges to other people.

The next activity today was coding the microbit to send a radio signal to another microbit. We had to make sure that both microbits were on the same group number so we didn't accidentally get a message from another group.

Maths

LI: To get faster at our times tables

Today we did a Super Fingers championship. We had to get into partners and then we had to verse  another pair and whoever won the round would verse the next opponent and then it would keep going until you made it into the finals. It was really fun doing the championship, when I watched everyone play each other and I noticed that everyone was getting better and better at their times table. More than one or two people can play, you can play anyone they don’t have, to your family you can play against friends people you haven’t seen. You don’t always have to write Super Fingers, you can do Mathematics, Draft, or whatever you want to call it whatever you want.T

There were 24 people 12 draws 6 quarterfinals 3 semi-finals 2 wild cards 2 grand finals and 1 champion.

LI: To try and get the mBot to draw a star shape for Matariki

This week the year 8s of LS2 coded the mbots to drive in a star alligned path. To make the code we used different action codes (moving, wheels, etc). We used a code that allows the mbot to move forwards, left and right, and the seconds the mbot has to do the task at. We drew a star on a large piece of paper and we tested our mbot on the paper. After we have tested our first one we made changes to further improve our mbot code.

Matariki Stars

LI: to strengthen our connection to Matariki
To continue our learning with Matariki we drew the Matariki stars, and labeled each of them. This activity helped us identify each star, and learn each of the names to strengthen our connections to not only Matariki but the culture and celebration. It was really fun doing this as this was an art based activity. We were able to edit these stars and it was very fun doing.

Havesting DLO

Matariki is the Maori new year celebration. It takes places each year when the cluster of stars known as Matariki are seen in our skies. The new year is a time for new beginnings and is a time to embrace tradition. To strengthen our connections to Matariki we had a choice of research activities. This DLO is about what the Maori people Harvested in Matariki. During Matariki poeple collected Kumara, Potato's and more. They used tool's like the Ko, Toki and some other ones as well. I enjoyed this activity because I learnt lots about the Matariki history.

Inside/Outside Brochure

 LI: to celebrate matariki

This week for the matariki challenges we created 2 brochures which was an inside brochure and an outside bochure. For my inside brochure, me and my group explained about the matariki stories, how matariki was celebrated in the past and what food was harvest at the festival. For my outside bochure, we explained matariki and wrote fact about it too.

What I found a bit hard is that i didn't know any fact so I had to reaserch it.

Greek Gods

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find information about the Greek gods
Today David shared his reading challenge with us. It is all about the Greek gods and helps us to practise the skills we have been learning in our reading lessons with our teachers. David created this task as part of his CARE award challenges. We earn CARE award badges in year 7 and 8 to show that we understand our school values. In this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information to help us complete the table. I found this activity fun because I got to learn about lots of the greek gods. The Greek god I found most interesting was Ares because it tells me how he is god of war.

Luxury

L.I To use metaphors and the five senses to describe the abstract noun.

Here is a link to my DLO if you would like to see it closer

Our task was to create a DLO of writing a poem using a  abstract noun. Abstract nouns are things that we can feel but we can't physically touch it.The 5 senses are sight, hearing, taste, smell and feel. First we had to pick a word from the list. And me and my group choose luxury. After we picked the word, we looked for a structure  in a example of given to us.After writing the poem we had to make a poem of us describing the word we have picken.

We really enjoyed this activity, because it taught us how to create metaphors and poems, using abstract nouns.

Friday 25 June 2021

Rock Paper Scissors

L.I To learn how to code the microbit to play rock paper sicsors and under stand how the flowchart matches the code.

When I shake the microbit it will chose a random number beetween 1 and 3. I have to make a veriable called hand and set this to the random number. If The number is 1 - the microbit will show the simble of rock. If The number is 2 - the microbit will show the simble of paper. If The number is 3 - the microbit will show the simble of scissors.

Misery

LI: To write an abstract noun senses poem.

For this task we worked collaboratively to create a poem using abstract nouns. Our group was given a list of abstract nouns that we can use to write a poem. The abstract noun we choose was misery. We used the five senses to describe what misery sounds, looks, tastes, and smells like while using metaphors to structure a poem correctly.

An abstract noun is a feeling or emotion that cannot be physically touched. A metaphor is the comparison between two things without using as or like.

For example: Happiness is a river of joy that is flowing through my heart.

The word happiness is the abstract noun and is used to create this metaphor.

The five senses are: hear, touch, smell, feel and see. Each of these five senses are what many humans are able to do.

A metaphor is the comparison between two things without using as or like.

I really enjoyed doing this because I got to work collaboratively and work together in a group and also use powerful words to strengthen the poem and make our metaphor stand out.

Writing

L.I: To understand how to use and correctly punctuate dialogue when writing.

For writing we were we did dialogue. We picked a sitaution and created a conversation. The situation I picked to create my conversation was when the wolf was furious that he couldn't bust the brick house.

After creating a conversation we created a DLO on what is dialogue, and where the punctuation go.

Dialogue is a conversation between two people or more.

I enjoyed this activity because when writing the dialogue we got to use this interesting website called Ifaketext messages.

Reading

L.I To write 6 hot questions about muslims and their communities they live in.

In the past 2 week’s our reading group has been learning about the culture Afghanistan. The text we read was called All as One. This is about how one culture comes together and pray in one room with men and women divided.

After reading this text we wrote some questions that we thought we wanted to know. When writing the questions we needed to use might, could, should, or would to make our questions better.

Some examples we wrote were:

.

  1. What might have happened if an adult eat during fasting?

  1. What might happen if a muslim said something wrong during praying?

  1. Who might have the idea of introducing the scarf for woman

  1.  When might have the quran been written?

  1. Where did the muslim culture start?

  1. What might have happen if a muslim said the wrong thing during praying.

Summarising

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about

This week we were reading a non fiction text about creatures of the deep. Creatures of the deep live in total darkness and can thrive  in icy cold conditions. Some creatures have organs that glow to attract their prey. One intresting fact I learnt about the creatures of the deep was that the total darkness starts at 900 meters deep where the sea creatures live.

Student Led Conference

L.I To share our learning with our familys.

Last night we had student led conference at panmure bridge school from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. I came at 4:30 pm to show my mum my learning. I showed her my reading, writing, maths, inquiry and camp learning. My favorite thing to dhow my mum was my writing. It was my favorite because I was learning about cinquain poems. My mum took photos of all of my work and she loved all of my work

Being A Jedi In Coding

L.I To code a mbot to move forword when nothing is there and to move backwards when you put your hand in front of it.

5 Cute Characters Similar to Baby Yoda | Sideshow Collectibles

My robot will wait until i have pressed the onboard button before it does anything. We used an "IF - THEN - ELSE" block as this gives the robot two choices of things to do. We are using the ULTRASONIC  SENSORon the of the robot and we need to sense if something 10cm in front of it. IF something is 10cm or LESS in front of the robot , it will move backwards. IF something is NOT less han 10cm in the front of the robot, it wil move forwards (ELSE). This is all put into a forever block so that the robot constantly senses what is in front of it.

Cinquain Poem

LI: To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives taht describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.
I enjoyed this activity because I got to chose any sports star in the word.

My Reading Pathway

LI: To show my personal journey through books

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favourite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading a book called The Help because it is a verry verry funny movie and book.

Tuesday 25 May 2021

Reading

L.I To explain in fewer words what the text is about

Creatures of the deep live in total darkness and can thrive  in icy cold conditions. Some creatures have organs that glow to attract their prey.

Interseting fact: The water becomes  totally dark at about 900 meters.

ASB GetWise

L.I To be wise with your money.

Today our getwise instructor Marlon taught us how to be wise with money, we played a game were we had to see who could get the most fun points while on our trip to Fiji. The twist was that we were on a $1800 budget. In my group it was me, Chris, Lukah, Oscar and Vayan. Marlon taught us about credit cards, debt and insurance, he also gave us advice to be smart with money. He said its better to buy insurance as it covers any bills.

Friday 14 May 2021

Pulleys

LI: To use our smart searching skills to find out about pulleys.

We have been learning about simple machines. There are 6 different types of simple machines. This week we learnt about pulleys. Our DLO shows our labelled diagrams of a pulley system. A labelled diagram is an information picture.
Pulleys are simple machines that helps lift heavy things.

25 Word Summary: A pulley is used to transfer heavy loads easily by force by hooking one end of the rope on load and pulling on the other.

Did you know? I knew about pulleys since I was year 6.

A Moment in Time Poem

LI: To use the language features and structure of published poem to help use write our own poem.

We looked at the language features and structure of a poem called ‘A Moment in Time’ and used our experiences from camp to follow the structure and collaboratively create our own moment in time poem. To describe what we heard, what we saw, how we felt and what we wondered we used our senses, adjectives and adverbs. Ajectives are words that describes nouns. Adverbs are a word that describes an action. I found this task interesting and fun because I used a really cool website called word hippow to make my groups work better.

Setting

LI: To use powerful words to describe a setting so that it paints a clear picture in the mind of the reader.

A setting is the place, time and environment of a story to help a reader make a connection to your narrative you need to use your words in away that helps them form a picture of what you are describing in their mind.To do this we looked at an image and thought of 10 words that described and showed what we could see. Once we had thought of the adjectives or adverbs we used our smart searching skills to help us find synoymns that made our descriptions clearer. I found this task interesting because I learnt more interesting words.

Thursday 15 April 2021

Key Competencies

LI: To compare the Key Competencies we think we will use on camp and the Key Competencies we actually used.

Before we went to camp our challenge was to think about when we might use the Key Competencies as we faced the challenges.  When we came back from camp we looked at this and compared how we thought we would use the Key Competencies and how we actually used them.
I really liked doing this task because I got to rethink back to camp , I also liked talking about the differences before camp and after camp.

Monday 12 April 2021

Duffy Role Moddle

L.I: To have a fun experience during the Duffy Role Model Assembly.

Today was Panmure bridges schools first Duffy assembly  of 2021.  Marc and Karen from duffy in schools came in and Marc was telling us a story about how his life was hard, when he was young and how it was hard for him in his school days. He told us that when he was young kids used to bully him because the teachers used to put him up in front of the school and make him read. Marc used to read from his right to his left he got bullied for that. This was a fun and cool experience to learn about his story.

Friday 9 April 2021

kokako Infographic

LI: To create an infographic using google draw that tells your audience facts about the kokako.
This week, everyone in LS2 has been given a set of different challenges based on our camp. For this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information about the North Island Kokako bird. I found this activit fun because I learnt about the kokako.

Thursday 8 April 2021

collage

LI: To create a collage of your camp highlights

This week LS2 have been celebrating our camp. I created this collage to show my time at camp and the activities I enjoyed. To make my collage effective I thought about the size of the images, the angle of the images and I tried hard not to leave any gaps between the photos. I found this activity because it was cool playing around with the photos.

5 minutes camp

L.I To recount a 5 minute snap shot of one experience you had at camp.

I was shaking as I took my first step on the ladder. My heart was beating faster than before, there were butterflies in my stomach and my whole body was shaking.

Next I was climbing the staples by then I thought I was going to come down but when I got to the top I said to myself don't look down I ran to the other pole it was scary at first.

After that I tried to do a push up but I couldn't go down and the rope was tight so I skipped the challenge.

At the end I started to feel like superman coming down slowly it was a fun experience.

Last week we went to camp at Kokako lodge. My 5 minute snap shot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt. I felt this activity fun because I face my fears of heights.

Kokako Lodge Brochure

L.I To create a brochure about the inside and the outside parts of kokako Lodge.

In our activity groups for camp, we created an inside and outside brochure to advertise Kokako Lodge. We included distance between Auckland to Kokako Lodge, information about the activities, photos of student experience, catering and cabins.

They provide free beds and have various activities to do and challenge yourself with. There are 6 cabins that hold up to 14 people, which is almost definitely capable of holding multiple crowds of people.

We focused on providing information that sells Kokako Lodge, which means it catches people’s interest and makes them want to stay there.

We enjoyed creating this brochure and being able to test our creativity with advertising and comprehension skills.

Cybersmart Challenges

we needed to complete this activity and it was for  our computers and we needed to see what keys and what we are suppose to do with our computers and we have to do shortcuts.

Hydration

LI: To understand why staying hydrated is important for our health and learning.

After defining hydration and dehydration we worked collaboratively to use our smart searching skills to help us find facts that would teach others why it is important for our health and learning. One fact I learnt about staying hydrated and dehydrated is that when your dehydrated your lungs get dried up but when you drink water it makes your lungs go back to normal and that means your hydrated. Something I found interesting is that when your urine is dark that means you haven't drank enough water but when its light it means you've drank loads of water which is good.

Leadership

LI: to show our understanding of what leadership is.

This week for writing LS2 worked in groups of 5 - 6 people to find the definition of leadership. First we brainstormed all the examples linked to leadership onto a piece of paper. Second we used that brainstorm to give us a basic idea of what leadership is. Then we wrote down all the important words linked to leadership, we then used those words to create a summary. After that we created a DLO about our summary and the process of making it.

Thursday 11 February 2021

LS2's Favourite Colours

LI: to plan and carry out a statistical investigation.

We went around our class, LS2 we went around finding data about LS2’s favourite colour. Our prediction was that we thought purple was going to be the most popular colour following by blue. Then We found out that more people liked blue following by purple. I picked the colour purple and my partner did too. We notice that more people like blue than other colours, we went around the classroom and found out that there were 5 people that liked the colour blue. Our Next we found out that purple had 3 people the liked the colour, green also had the same amount as purple. We noticed that 1 person liked black and pink.
